More adults than ever are choosing orthodontic treatment to achieve the straight smile they've always wanted. Whether you missed treatment as a child or your teeth have shifted over time, modern orthodontics offers discreet and effective solutions for adults of all ages.
At Smart Smile Orthodontics, we offer clear aligners and ceramic braces that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. Treatment times vary, but most adults complete their orthodontic journey within 12-24 months with regular check-ups.
The teenage years are the most common time for orthodontic treatment, and for good reason. By this age, most adult teeth have emerged, making it easier to address crowding, spacing, and bite issues effectively.
Our adolescent patients can choose from traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, or clear aligners. We understand teens have active lifestyles, so we work with your schedule to minimise disruption to school, sports, and social activities.
Early orthodontic intervention for children can prevent more serious problems from developing later. We recommend an initial consultation around age 7, when the first adult molars and front teeth have typically emerged.
Early treatment can guide jaw growth, correct harmful oral habits, and create space for adult teeth. Our gentle, kid-friendly approach ensures your child feels comfortable and confident throughout their orthodontic journey.
Your first orthodontic consultation is complimentary and typically lasts about 30 minutes. During this visit, we'll take digital photos and X-rays to assess your teeth, jaws, and facial structure.
We'll discuss your treatment options, answer all your questions, and provide a personalised treatment plan with transparent pricing. There's no pressure – just honest advice to help you make the best decision for your smile.

The type of correction needed will determine the type of braces fitted for your child. Usually there are small square silver (brackets) attached to the surface of the front teeth and sometimes a band around the 6-year-old molars at the back of the mouth. A special wire is connected between the brackets and bands to do the work of moving the teeth.
6 to 12 months with regular adjustment visits
Adjustments made during the treatment period
After the front teeth are straight, your orthodontist will remove the braces and make a retainer to protect that new super smile. The retainer will initially be required to be worn full-time (day and night), but later on it will only be required at night. New teeth will still be able to come down while the retainer is being worn.
It may take a few months or years before we expect to see all the adult teeth in place and arrangements will be made to see you for regular no-charge reviews over the time period.
It is likely that a second stage of work will be needed at the age of 12 or 13, but you'll already have a head start on that winning smile.
